Dear Friends of Boughton Place,
For over 88 years, the Moreno Stage has been more than just a physical structure - it has been a vessel for storytelling, healing, and connection. Through psychodrama, sociodrama, and Playback Theatre, this stage has held the voices, emotions, and transformations of countless individuals. Over time, nearly everyone who has come through our doors, whether as a participant, performer, student, or audience member - has touched this stage in some way, contributing their story to its living history.
Originally located at the Moreno Institute in Beacon, NY, the stage was the birthplace of modern psychodrama under the guidance of J.L. and Zerka Moreno. People from across the country and around the world came to study and witness the power of these methods. In 1986, the historic stage found a new home at Boughton Place in Highland, NY, where it has remained an integral part of our mission ever since.
And it’s not just the psychodrama community that has a connection to the stage; so much celebration, dancing, singing, storytelling, music making, performances of every kind and everything in between has taken place on this stage.
Today, after decades of use by our vibrant and diverse community, the stage needs restoration. The cost of repairs is estimated at $15,000+, and we hope to have it completed in 2026.
We are reaching out to ask for your generous support. Your donation will help us preserve this beloved stage so it may continue to serve as a sacred space for generations to come—a place where stories are shared, wounds are healed, and community is continuously created.
Together, let’s ensure the Moreno Stage continues to be a home for all.
With gratitude,
Jennifer Karl
Board President
